2. a.teacher – student = respect, responsible
b.teacher – parent = confidence

The best words to describe our school-wide climate would be commitment, expectations, achievement and dedication.

The reason I chose these words were the commitment shown by each employee at our school to the welfare not only the education of our students, the expectations we have for each of our students to become the best they can be, achievement goals we have for ourselves and our students and knowing that they can achieve when given the right tools to do so and the dedication from our staff to implement all these aspects of our chosen roles.

teacher-student - trust
teacher-parent - insight
teacher-teacher - dependability
staff - administrator - guidence

Persistent, Commitment, Collaboration, -
Collaborate with grade level colleagues, specialists and other staff to help each child succeed and create a learning environment within our school. Due to limited resources and funding, we as a staff have found it a necessity to step outside the box and be more creative to ensure our commitment to student achievement is met.

a-teacher- student—compassion
b-teacher-parent—commitment
c-teacher- teacher-- collaboration
d-staff-administrator—community

We agree with Hudson at CFE in that persistence and commitment are critical traits of teachers and parents in helping each student succeed in school. We are all willing to do what is necessary to help each individual student reach his/her individual goals, make progress and be successful at school, home and the community.

One word that was not even listed was caring, which I feel is appropriate to this school. You have alot of people caring, from Mr. Artie sitting every day at lunch with students, to administrative assistants reflecting on the best way to help and take care of "these babies". We are also a compassionate school, people going the extra yard to make a student or fellow staff member feel important.

teacher student - self actualizing (ok, I know it isn't listed, but, we try to make a student reach his/her potential.

teacher parent - communication - I find the parents easy to talk to, they and I want the best healthy lifestyle for their kid.

teacher teacher - trust

staff administrator - trust - we rust each other to do the job we are trained for.

We agree with Hudson from CFE. Each child is an individual and you need to look for the right ways to meet each child's individual needs. Collaboration is the key to helping all children succeed. We can not do it all alone and must depend on other staff members and family as key components to moving students forward.

In response to what Chris says..We think that caring is a very important word too. Not only should we as teachers care about our students but we should show them how and what "care" means. From taking care of the materials we give then to caring for one another and their feelings. We think that "care" is a word that is left out of alot of these children's homes.

RPP Bogan said...

1. I would have to say that collaboration best defines our school. We chat regularly about our students and the different ways to meet their needs.

2. What core value or words best defines each of the following relationships:

a. teacher-student = I believe determination best says the way we look at each child. No matter where they are, we are determined to take them further.
b. teacher-parent = I think we respect our parents and the many cultures they come from.
c. teacher-teacher = Reflection shows us what we are and how we can improve. We must learn from each other and take that knowledge to be our best.
d. staff- administrator Citizenship is the way we show our respect for those who are there to help us improve.

I think Ms. Bender hits the nail on the head when she says that loyalty is a big deal with teacher to teacher relationships. That should not only be established throughout a school, but throughout the school system.

The overall core value which our school represents is that of "preserverance". No matter what the circumstances, the high expectations from the state, the low parent involvement, or the lack of accountability students sometimes show, we "remain steadfast in the pursuit" of educating our students to the best of our ability.

The relationship with our students is best expressed by "committment" because we are committed to educating them no matter what occurs.

The teacher-parent relationship is best described by "integrity" because we are honest and moral in all our communications with them.

Our teacher to teacher relationships are characterized by "respect" because we know that each and every one of us are here for the same purpose and that is to serve these students to the best of our abilities. We are all in this together.

Our staff to administration could best be described by "collaberation" because we all work together to develop plans and strategies to do what is best for the students.

kindness - I see many of our staff going way beyond what is expected to help children have the things they need. We have a clothes closet. We have a place where children can get food to take home if needed. I've seen teachers buy children clothing because what they have is not clean or does not fit properly.

The core values that I believe best define CFE are commitment, persistence, respect, collaboration, and responsibility. All staff at CFE are committed to helping each student reach his or her maximum potenital. We try different strategies, collaborating with one another hoping to find a way to reach this student, or those students, or that student. We feel it our responsibility to fulfill high expectations others set for us as well as those we set for ourselves, even to the point of feeling discouraged when they are not reached. Persistence and partnership between teachers comes in here as well. Sometimes it takes a another teacher to help bring us out of our discouragement when we are extremely tough on ourselves. Respect of other teachers, students, parents, and administrators should be a no brainer. But I have seen many places where there is no respect, be it for parents, students, or staff. When respect isn't there other values such as trust and collaboration are impossible.

a. teacher-student:
respect, kindness, persistent, trust
b. teacher-parent:
respect, trust, restraint, compassion, partnership
c. teacher-teacher:
loyality, trust, collaboration
d. staff-administrator:
trust, fairness,initiative

Fucili said...

I agree with Cioffi at RPP about stepping out of the box. If we are to show determination and perseverance we have to try different strategies to meet the ever changing needs of our students. These guys are coming from places that we have no idea about. One value that should also be included is empathy. Comments I hear almost daily from parents, students, and staff show me there is little empathy anymore to what a child may be going through. Sometimes we may need to step back and put ourselves in that child's (they are children remember) shoes before we throw that zero on them or make that snappy comment. At their ages they can't leave their problems at home like we as adults are to do when we go to work. Sometimes we can't even do that. How do we expect an eight year old to do it?

1)The word that best defines my current school-wide climate and culture is "accountability". As teachers we need to be accountible for our students success as well as the student being held accountable for theirs. It is a sort of partnership that we have. One cannot do their job without the other.

2) teacher-student: respect
teacher-parent: partnership
teacher-teacher: collaboration
staff-asministrator: trustworthiness

I agree with Cioffi's group because without collaboration with grade level colleagues, specialists and other staff we would not all be on the "same page". We have a dry erase board in the Staff Lounge that we can write what we are working on during a certain week. That way, even if someone doesn't have time for collaboration, we can still see what each teacher is doing. Then art, music, P.E., etc. can use what is there to plan their lessons accordingly.

1. The core words I am going to choose that define the climate and culture of CFES are the same words we teach our students: Caring, Safe, Cooperative, Respectful, and Responsible. These are the values that we instill in our students and we hold ourselves to the same standards.

2. teacher-student- trust, compassion, respect
teacher-parent- collaboration, insight, (hopeful) accountability
teacher-teacher- respect, collaboration, dependability
staff-administrator- dedication, responsibility

To AmandaJohnsonRPP:
I agree that resilience is a great word to describe both of our schools. We have overcome many obstacles, such as raising standards and budget cuts, yet have kept our expectations of ourselves and our students high and realistic. We keep a positive tone and move forward.

I know this is a late response, but I thought it best to respond even though late. Core value word would be responsibility. I find this the singular most used word within our school system. It is implied with students, parents, teachers and administrators. It is also reflected in conversations and deadlines. It seems the most measured. Responsibility certainly brings all parties to the table. PNixon@RPPS

In response to Mr. Brown and several others, commitment driven by care( or love) can produce initiative and astounding results. Guess you must love what you do and why. I really enjoyed reading my Rpp family and my new CFE friends.

Julia - CFES

The words that I think best describes our school are accountability, resilience, responsibility and perseverance. I think when everyone is accountable for their actions and what they teach academically, standards remain high. Also responsibility not only for what the teacher does but teaching students to be responsible for their actions and learning. And of course perseverance or else nothing would be accomplished if we gave up when things became difficult.

The core values or words that best define CFE are Collaboration, Compassion, and Kindness. I chose these words because they describe the people I work with. Over the past month, I have seen my team collaborate and work together to help me out. They have been compassionate and kind to the things going on in my life. But not only in a time of need to I see these traits. These traits radiate throughout the year.

a. teacher-student = respect
b. teacher-parent = integrity
c. teacher-teacher = resilience
d. staff- administrator = respect, honest

Julia,

I agree with what you said about perseverance and almost typed the exact same words. It is so crucial for us to not give up on our students. Our 'babies' look up to us and some even model our behavior whether we know it or not. If we give up, then what have we accomplished?

Miranda W @CFE said...

I think we are resilient at CFE. No matter what the state of the economy is in, the budget crisis in our school system, the changes in government, or personal misfortunes. We continue to work toward the goal of creating a caring environment where expectations for behavior and achievement are high. With the ultimate goal of students being successful.

a. teacher-student: commitment
b. teacher-parent:accountable
c. teacher-teacher: collaboration
d. staff- administrator: trust

I agree with Ms. Bogan that we need to respect eachother; collegues, parents, administrators, and students for our differences. It is our differences that create the unique learning environments that help so many students achieve success.
