Chapter 1

Identify a low performing student to specifically focus your student achievement discussion around.

1. Whom would you need to collaborate with to develop a profile of this student and his/her family?

2. What demographic subgroup(s) does this student belong to and what inequities are associated with the subgroup?

CFE Insco's reply to Susan... I agree that the cum folders contain information that is important to discovering patterns in behavior, attendance, and moving from school to school. Good point.

1.The student's teacher(s), family, Principal(s) and perhaps the Guidance Counselor and any experts in this field.

2.White male, receives free lunch, single parent family, bully, not on meds, but parent is trying to get him on them and the student is not EC.

To Mr. Chris,

Wonderful. Those were great resources.

Forgot to mention the demographic subgroup: this girl is a low income white person, lives close to school, rides the bus and is on free and reduced lunch. She lives with both parents but they don't give her much help in terms of academics, shei s on her own there as both parents work different shifts.

My low performing student has a disability and a unstable home environment. Unfortunately the state requires him to meet unrealistic goals. However I do include the parents, and other colleagues to determine how to best meet this students needs.

I agree with amigo that the student's teacher and specialist are good resources to use.

k H at cfes is to develop a repore with the student and consult other qualified staff will keeping an open-mind realizing those who know better will do better and it's up to us to acheive that. Just follow and order chain and basically work together in implementing a similar goal.

cfes kh it's really not a order to place them in it's where the child is at peace so his environment and surrounding doesn't hinder his or her progress.

I have a low performing African American male in 5th grade. While his subgroup may be associated with discipline infractions this student is not a discipline problem. He does have serious test performance concerns, and overall motivational issues. Hard work and education do not seem to be a priority for this student. I need to collaborate with every teacher he comes in contact with to find an area that he can develop passion for. Motivation for this student needs to come from interest. At this point the student is not mature enough to comprehend the magnitude that educational effort will have on his future.
